Remarks:
Jeff Fink designed the piece, after a similar "apple-time capsule" in Berryville. A high school drafting class taught by Bruce Roberts at James Rumsey Vocational Technical Center drew the blueprints; Ray Miller shaped the rods for the skeleton; and a welding class taught by Larry Roberts at James Rumsey Vocational Technical Center welded the skeleton. IAS files contain related articles from Martinsburg Evening Journal (Martinsburg, WV), April 25, 1990, pg. C1, C3; and Martinsburg Weekend Journal (Martinsburg, WV), July 7, 1990, which discuss the creation of the time capsule and the objects enclosed in it. IAS files contain a list of the objects enclosed in the time capsule. For a related article see: "On the Road With David Bowes," Mid-Atlantic Country (May 1992): pg. 10-11. The work was funded by the Jaycees and sited along the Apple Harvest Festival parade route.
