Remarks:
This piece was a gift from the estate of Alfred Jenkins Shriver. Daniel Coit Gilman was the first president of Johns Hopkins University. IAS files contain related articles from The Evening Sun (Baltimore, MD), Jan. 25, 1957; Johns Hopkins University Newsletter, Oct. 22, 1954 & Feb. 15, 1957. Johns Hopkins University Archives, "Shriver Hall Files" contain additional information on this sculpture. Richard Murphy of Stony Creek Memorial Corporation in Guilford, Connecticut constructed the base for this sculpture.
