Remarks:
Title supplied by Inventory cataloger.
The National Bank and Trust Company was called the First National Bank when the building was constructed in 1894. Theodore D. Wands sculpted the face on the left with the wart, and Mr. Conroy sculpted the face on the right. The architect for the building was Isaac G. Perry, and it was built by James W. Wright, both of Binghamton, New York. The bluestone was provided by the F. G. Clarke Blue Stone Company. In March 1933, the First National Bank of Oxford closed, reopening as the National Bank of Oxford in February 1934. In August 1984, it merged with the National Bank and Trust Company of Norwich and became known as the National Bank and Trust Company. IAS files contain a related history of the Bank and the building, commemorating the Bank's centennial in 1994.
