    Description: 
    A curved, double colonnade of square pillars, each measuring 16 in. x 16 in., progressing in height from 6 ft. to 18 ft. Inset at eye level on the granite-faced side of each pillar is a 16 in. x 16 in. plaque. These plaques are sandblasted with photographs that illustrate major accomplishments of the Department of Transportation.

    Remarks: 
    The photographs and inscriptions were sandblasted on the granite plaques by William Heisserman of Solid Rock Company; the photographs were taken by Department of Transportation photographer, Robert C. Moore; and the stencils for the images were made by Cooper Graphics. The concrete columns were built by Enterprise Builders and the granite was set by United Stone America. The engineering firms for the project were John Bowes & Associates and Girard & Company. This sculpture is one of two by the artist installed at the Newington location for the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Both sculptures were commissioned through the Department of Public Works and the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. IAS files contain a brochure on the sculpture which describes the subject of each of the sandblasted photographs and includes the artist's statement about the piece.
