Description:
Colossal human half-head stands on a base which is incised with numerous symbols of various cultures. The head faces a small amphitheater which contains a bench etched with images from the history of scientific investigation. The work is related to indoor sculptures by the same artist, located in the lobbies of a building nearest to the sculpture. All the works have the theme of science and civilization.

Remarks:
Commissioned under the State Percent for Art Program for $194,000. The is the University's first public art project. The head was fabricated by SGF Scultura. The base and benches were created by Elite Granite and Marble. SRG Partnership provided direction in the construction. Doug Macy was the landscape architect. IAS files include an excerpt from "Sculpture" Jan./Feb. 1993, a state registration form, and an artist's statement.
