    Remarks:
Sculpture commissioned through the State of Oregon, Oregon Arts Commission, One Percent for Art in State Buildings program. Cost was $42,125. The cobblestones which comprise the piece are native to Portland. The idea originated with the discovery of the cobblestones during the construction of West Hall, the site of the sculpture. The stones had been laid along a streetcar route around the turn of the century. Mayer created the work with the help of student assistants. Text was sandblasted by Elite Granite & Marble and was installed by Don P. Schonert Inc. IAS files include a citation to the Oregonian, Feb. 21, 1993 and documentation from the Oregon Arts Commission, including registration, text of plaque and inscriptions, artist's diagrams and a conservation record.
