W. H. KEIM POST 76/DEPT. OF PENNA. G A R/SEPT. 10. 1887 (On northwest corner:) Eagle Marble &/Granite Works/cor. 6 & Elm Founder's mark appears. Description:  The monument consists of a granite figure of a Civil War soldier playing a bronze (possibly nickel-plated) bugle, atop a tall granite base. The soldier is dressed in uniform, with a cape, and he holds the bugle to his lips with his proper right hand. The base is built of 13 pieces of stone with cannon on each corner and trim of cannon balls. Reliefs decorate the sides. On the east are crossed muskets, on the south, an anchor and rope; on the west, crossed sabers, and on the north, crossed flags, bunting and the initials G A R. Beckhardt. A Civil War veteran Charles Gilliams, bugler and First Sergeant of Co. M, 6th Cavalry, is reportedly the model for the statue. The sculpture was done by Herman Strecker; the base by Dennis McSherry. The monument was fabricated by P. F. Eisenbrown and Eagle Marble Works. IAS files contain related excerpt from Wayne E.
