    Description: 
    Figure of a fireman holding a hose before him in his proper left hand. He stands atop a tall column which is encircled by a fire hose. The column stands atop a four-sided tiered base with reliefs. A bas-relief plaque on front of the base depicts a man on horse-drawn fire engine. Text plaques on the remaining sides honor past and present firemen from 12 area fire companies. The lower base also features decorative reliefs of a hook and ladder, bugles and rope, and an axe and pick. The memorial was originally surrounded by four fire hydrants linked by a chain, now removed.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was restored in 1990 and moved slightly northeast from its original setting. For further reading, see Morton Montgomery's "History of Reading & Burks County," 1904.
    The sculpture was restored in 1996 and may now sit in a niche with surrounding two foot high exedra seating wall. Additional text plaques were added at time of restoration.
