Description:
Figure of a World War I infantryman advancing through the stumps and barbed wire on rocky ground. He holds a rifle in his proper left hand and a grenade in his upraised proper right hand. He is dressed in World War I military uniform, including helmet, calf-length jacket, breeches, and puttees. He has a canteen, gas mask pouch,, backpack and bayonet scabbard. He stands atop a tall square-sided multi-tiered granite base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was authorized by the Logan County Board of Commissioners in 1921 and cost $1,500. The base and installation were done by Oakley Marble and Granite Company. Garth McNeil did the lettering. IAS files contain copy of newspaper article from Oakley Graphic, Nov. 6, 1991, pg. 2. For further reading see: Oakley Graphic, Sept. 23, 1921; Aug. 18, 1922; and May 4, 1923.
