Description:
Full-length figure of a Union soldier. He wears a uniform, cap and overcoat with cape. Attached to his belt are a small pouch on the proper right front, a bayonet on the proper left side and a larger pouch on the proper right rear hip. The soldier has a moustache. He holds the barrel of a rifle with his proper right hand; the butt of the gun rests on the ground in front of him. His proper left arm leans on the top of the rifle. The marble sculpture stands on a tiered marble base.

Remarks:
The sculpture and memorial were given to the town by James H. Hunt who had served in the Civil War. Cost of the memorial was $1,250. The sculpture was furnished by Edward Gorges & Son and was cut from Milford granite by Rossi Bros. IAS files contain copy of related excerpt from "Old Home Day and Dedication of Soldiers' Monument", Franklin, NH: Towne & Robie, pg. 1-7. IAS files contain copy of related excerpt from David Ruell's unpublished manuscript "The Public Sculpture of New Hampshire", Concord: New Hampshire Historical Society, 1980, pg. 108-109.
