Description:
A central relief panel surrounded by fourteen smaller panels depicting the African-American experience, is installed on the facade of City Hall. The central panel contains a full-length, shirtless male whose upraised arms reveal broken shackles. An encircled bust of Abraham Lincoln appears in the center. On each side of an American eagle below Lincoln are oval reliefs. One oval depicts an enslaved female being sold at auction and other shows a male figure working in the fields. Various historic and contemporary figures are shown on the surrounding panels. These include figures from the arts, sports and other professions.
