Remarks:
Commissioned by Randolph Ltd. for the 1986 Minneapolis Aquatennial. The cost was $7,000, and funding was provided by Walser Automotive Corporation. The inscription was written by the winner of an "Opportunity in Minnesota" slogan contest. After the sculpture was featured in the Aquatennial parade, it was displayed in the Crystal Court of the IDA building in Minneapolis where the carving was completed. The statue was displayed for one day on the Mississippi Riverfront. From July 28 to Oct. 28, 1986 the statue was in storage. On Oct. 28, 1986, it was displayed in the State Capitol Rotunda to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the original Statue of Liberty. By January 1987, it was being stored at Walser Automotive in Edina, MN. It was donated to the State Fair that month. IAS files include correspondence between Walser Automotive and the Minnesota State Fair, and related articles from the Duluth News-Tribune and Herald and Northeaster (Minnesota) July 16, 1986.
