    Description:
Sculptures at the Dorsey Mansion consist of a fountain and gargoyles and reliefs on the facade of the house. The fountain is comprised of a central structure in a round basin. The central piece is a four-course structure topped with a bobcat enveloped by a rattlesnake. The middle course has an apexed cornice and is supported by four short columns. There are rodent and lizard-like creatures crawling up the fountain, and a lion's head on the exterior of the basin. Reliefs on the castellated portion of the house include gargoyles and head portraits of Senator Stephen W. Dorsey, his wife, Helen Dorsey and brother John Dorsey.

    Remarks:
The house and fountain were designed by Stephen W. Dorsey, a rancher, Union army officer during the Civil War and former United States Senator from Arkansas. The house was begun in 1878 and completed in 1880. SOS! survey reports that an Italian artisan did the sculptural work. In 1884, Dorsey began remodeling the house to include a stone castle tower. Dorsey and his brother John carved in the faces of his wife Helen Dorsey. The Dorsey Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and IAS files contain a brochure on the Dorsey Mansion with text by Wm. H. Robinson.
