Description:
A shaft topped by an eagle with spread wings atop a sphere. The shaft itself ends in lion's paws and has an octagonal plinth and tiered, octagonal base.

Remarks:
The monument is one of 110 honoring Pennsylvania troops who participated in the Gettysburg campaign, and one of two erected in honor of the 27th Pennsylvania Infantry. It marks the general location of the regiment on the evening of July 1, 1863 when it advanced to cover the retreat of Barlow's Division. It was originally installed on East Cemetery Hill in 1884 and was moved to its current location in 1889. The monument is listed on the National Park Service, List of Classified Structures (referred to as MN 49) and is referenced in the Gettysburg National Military Park Archives, vol. 29. IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form.
