Description:
Bronze full-length female figure stands in the center of a marble memorial. She wears classical dress. Her arms are raised on either side at shoulder level and rest on marble pedestals which flank her. In one hand she holds a wreath of laurel and in the other she holds a wreath of bay. She appears to be resting the wreaths on the heads of two bas-relief figures which decorate the fronts of the marble pedestals. The bas-relief figure on her proper right is that of a Civil War soldier in proper right profile. He wears a uniform and stands at parade rest, holding his rifle in front of his body. The bas-relief figure on her proper left is a Civil War Sailor. He wears a uniform and cap and clasps his hands in front of him. A sword hangs at his hip. He is seen in proper right profile. On the back of the marble memorial is a small bronze lion head fountain above a semi-circular fountain basin. The basin has been filled in with concrete.

Remarks:
The memorial was funded through a bequest from Charles J. Everett, a local civic leader. The memorial stands at the rear of a concrete bandstand, also funded by a bequest from Everett, which replaced an earlier wooden one. IAS files contain copy of related article from Independent (Goshen, NY), June 1, 1917 and related excerpt from Elizabeth Sharts' "Land O'Goshen Then and Now".
