Rectangular slab of granite etched with a large image of an American soldier holding a rifle, a German shepherd at his side. A smaller image of a German shepherd in profile standing at the ready appears in the lower right corner, and in the background there is a silhouette of a soldier and his dog standing guard.

The memorial was dedicated on National Purple Heart Day, August 7, 2011. The memorial was designed to honor the dogs of war, both injured and killed, as well as their handlers.
