    Remarks:
The total cost of the monument was $65,000, part of which was a gift of Bedford attorney Moses F. Dunn, who died in 1915, bequesting $10,000 for a sculpture that would pay tribute to Lawrence County soldiers, sailors and pioneers. Miss Indiana, Mayme Hubbard Smith, was the model for face of female figure. The face was carved by Bedford sculptor Harry Easton. Alexander Doyle was the architect for the project, and Waldine Tauch was the modeler. Indiana Bluff limestone was supplied by Consolidated Stone Company.
