Description:
Draped Madonna and Christ child. Madonna is holding child in crook of her proper left arm. Her proper right hand rests on child's proper left knee. The child's proper left palm is exposed toward the front of statue. His proper right hand is raised in benediction. Infant has a carved halo.

Remarks:
Plaque on Rectory patio reads: In memory of/Amelia Bennigen /A Friend of Children. Sculpture originally located at the Good Shepherd School for Girls, Phoenix. The statue was given to Our Lady of the Valley around 1980, when the school was closed. Sculpture was placed in current setting in March 1991. From 1980 to 1990, it was in the same courtyard, but on a different base. A former minister of the church recalls seeing the statue at the Good Shepherd School as early as 1948 or 1949. He thought the sculpture came from the Di Prata Workshop near Rome, Italy.
