    Remarks:
The monument was installed in 1960 by the Kiwanis Clubs of the Michigan District to replace an earlier marker. The original marker commemorated the Kiwanis Reforestration Project, initiated in 1928 by Harry D. Black, of the Flint Club. Working with the United States Forest Service, the Kiwanis Clubs provided $19,400 for the planting of pine seedlings on ten thousand acres of land which is now a state forest. IAS files contain the text of the clubs' plaques on the monument and the text of a nearby commemorative marker explaining the reforestration project, donated by the Saginaw Clubs, 1961.
