    Description: 
    The memorial is a fountain constructed with a rectangular block of granite adorned on each side with a semicircular fountain bowl. The large bowl on the front was originally used for watering horses. The small bowl on the back is fitted with a metal fountain faucet for people. Carved laurel leaves adorn each face of the memorial.

    Remarks: 
    Milton native Colonel Henry Sturgis Russell (1838-1905) was a horse breeder whose farm was located on Canton Road where the Indian Cliffs development is now located. Russell was imprisoned in Libby Prison during the Civil War and in 1864 became Colonel of the Fifth Massachusetts Cavalry. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Monuments questionnaire dated Nov. 1985. The Walter A. Wentworth Company installed the fountain memorial. The stone was furnished by N. J. Sullivan.
