Sculpture
Owner:
Lumpkin, R. Y., Mrs., Route 17, Box 313E, Tappahannock, Virginia 22560
Remarks:
The sculpture originated in Paris and was especially made for Evelyn Walsh McLean, an owner of the Hope Diamond, and was probably displayed at her estate in Washington, D.C. After her death it was auctioned off to a Richmond family and moved to their home. Later the sculpture was sold to the current owner and brought to Tappahannock in the late 1940's. It was moved to the present location from an adjacent yard in June 1993. Possible artist's signature is hard to read; surveyor notes it "seems to be DELABRIERRE." IAS files contain article from Rappahannock Times (Rappahannock, VA), Feb. 22, 1973,pg. 1.
