Description:
Full-length figure of a Spanish American War foot soldier. The figure wears a shirt with rolled-up sleeves, trousers tucked into knee-high boots and a cartridge belt. He stands, leaning forward with both hands resting on the barrel of his rifle, held vertically in front of him. The figure is placed in the center of a square plaza. There are shorter pedestals at each corner of the plaza. Each pedestal has a diagonal surface on which plaques in the shape of an open-book are affixed. There is also an artillery shell mounted on a granite base which may be an artifact from the battleship Maine.
