    Remarks:
This is one of nearly 200 small replicas of Bartholdi's Statue of Liberty (IAS record 76003645) placed around the country as part of the Boy Scouts of America's 40th anniversary (1950). According to a March 1986 Fact Sheet from the Boy Scouts of America (on file in IAS), the idea for the project originated with Jack Whitaker, then Scout Commissioner of the Kansas City Area Council. The copper statues were manufactured by Friedley-Voshardt Co. (Chicago, IL) and purchased through the Kansas City Boy Scouts office.
It was a gift of the Le Roy Lodge #1132, Loyal Order of Moose on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America, Genesee Council. The cost was $600. Charles I. Cromwell designed the base and pedestal. In May 1986, repair work was done by Le Roy Plastics. New spires were soldered and cracks were repaired. The plaques were cleaned with an acid and water solution by Kermit Arrington. When the statue was reinstalled for its July rededication, a floodlight was also installed. Attached sources differ on whether the media is bronze or copper.
IAS files contain related articles from the Le Roy Gazette-News, v. 152 no. 28, Sept. 17, 1950; the Batvia Daily News, May 3, 1978, Sept. 25, 1985, and June 30, 1986.
