2 pairs of figures. Each pair of figures: approx. 7 x 5 x 2 ft.
Description:
Two pairs of caryatids flank the windows over the elaborate southeast entrance to Macy's. The figures support Ionic-like capitals which in turn support the granite entablature over the doorway. All four stand up straight with each pair holding hands. All wear long classical gowns with ribbons across the bust and sandals. The hair on each figure is slightly different and each holds an object in her free hand. From east to west, the first figure holds a caduceus, the next holds what appears to be an old fashioned spindle, the next figure holds a package which looks like two loaves of bread or sausage, and the fourth figure holds what looks like a torch entwined with leaves.
