    Description:
A bronze replica of the Liberty Bell is attached to a horizontal wooden beam that is supported by two upside-down, V-shaped steel supports. The four support legs stand on concrete blocks. The sculpture rests in the center of a four-sided, granite platform with beveled edges and a stone canopy. Three concrete steps lead up to the platform on the north side, graduating from three to one step on the east and west sides. The south side is level with the ground. Four metal, commemorative text plaques are situated around base. Two of the plaques are set in marble. Set in the base floor on the north side of the bell is the Great Seal of Arkansas. On the east side of the bell is the Bicentennial Time Capsule, consisting of a block attached to the floor of the base. On the north side, the red and blue Bicentennial Seal is centered on the upper horizontal section of the canopy. A circular fountain is located next to the sculpture on the north side.

    Remarks:
This replica of the Liberty Bell is one of 50 given to the states in 1950 following a Liberty Bond Drive. The bond sale raised $6.5 billion to help pay for the military expenses of World War II. During the drive, the bell was displayed around the State of Arkansas from May 15 to July 4, 1950. The bell was one of fifty-three originally cast in France in 1950 and given to the United States government by a group of American metal industry companies. The shelter housing the bell and the fountain between the bell and Markham Street were built in 1976 to celebrate the nation's bicentennial. IAS files contain a full transcription of text plaque on south side of bell. IAS files contain a visitor information sheet from the Public Relations Department of the Arkansas State Capitol.
