    Owner:
Davidson, Russell, Farm field near Eudora, Douglas County, Kansas
    Remarks:
The artist worked from a photograph of the Statue of Liberty's face. Volunteers, with an array of gardening and farming tools, "carved" the outline in the field. The artist and Russell Davidson, the owner of the field, also assisted with the "carving." For five days, the area was mowed, mulched and plowed, in order to duplicate the likeness for a cover photo for the July 10, 1995 issue of U.S. News & World Report. IAS files contain that illustration and clipping from the Kansas City Star, July 4, 1995, sect. B. For related information see Stan Herd's "Crop Art and Other Earthworks," New York: H.N. Abrams, 1994.
