Description:
A soldier stands with arms bent at the elbows and crossed over his chest, grasping a rifle barrel. His proper left hand is above the proper right hand. He has a moustache and wears a visored cap, a cape and knee-length coat. The soldier has a bayonet hanging from his proper left side and a cartridge pouch on his proper right. The figure is mounted on a tiered, rectangular base. On the front upper section of the base is the relief of an eagle with wings spread, over a flag of the U.S. and a star.

Remarks:
The monument is in memory of the soldiers and sailors of the Civil War. The monument was installed by the McIntyre Woman's Relief Corps, to replace an older wooden monument that was in disrepair. The monument cost $1,200. The monument was cut by Drew Daniel. IAS files contain related articles from the Austin Daily Herald (Austin, MN) May 29, 1906; May 31, 1906, pg. 2; and the Mower County Transcript, May 30, 1906.
