    Description: 
    An over-sized left hand holding up a torch, placed atop a platform. Behind the platform is a surrounding exedra, with Grecian urns on either end. The memorial is lit at night. Three semi-circular steps lead up to the platform.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was donated by the artist, the Roxbury Memorial Association, and citizens of Roxbury Township with the assistance of the Town Council. The memorial displays two dates -- the date the cornerstone was laid MCMLV; and a second date of 1959, for the dedication when the hand & torch were completed. A lead box in the cornerstone contains a local newspaper and other historical memorabilia. IAS files include related excerpt from Virginia L. Bostick's "The History of Public Monuments & Sculpture of Morris County, New Jersey," New Jersey State Council on the Arts, 1978, pg. 70-72; and transcription on exedra plaque, listing contractor, welder, landscapist, electrical & engineering assistants.
