Remarks:
IAS files contain a related excerpt from Giglierano, Jeffery J., and Deborah A. Overmyer, "The Bicentennial Guide to Greater Cincinnati: A Portrait of Two Hundred Years," Cincinnati: Cincinnati Historical Society, 1988. The fountain was donated by Charles Kilgour and designed as a horse trough. At the time of the piece's donation, some alleged the gift was intended to counter ill-feelings stirred up by the Tribune's attacks on public expenditures that benefitted the Kilgour real estate ventures. In 1976, restoration work was undertaken, lowering the lamps and changing the basin areas. See IAS files for photocopies of the statue, before and after restoration. A bronze plaque on sidewalk on proper right of sculpture, reads: The Kilgour Fountain/was redesigned and built by/Eleftherio Karkadoulios/Bronze Art - Cincinnati, Ohio / 1976.
