Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 92 x 80 x 60 in.; Base: approx. 8 1/2 x 80 x 55 in. Inscription:  (Carved in rusticated lettering at upper right of stone:) ELIA CORTI unsigned Description:  Full-length, standing figure of Elia Corti, in a pose of melancholic reflection. His proper right hand, supported on the thigh, extends to meet the pensively inclined head. The proper left arm is placed on a truncated column, with a plant life at the base. He is placed against a rough-hewn granite boulder. Subject:  Portrait male -- Corti, Elia -- Full length Occupation -- Art -- Sculptor Object Type:  Gravestone Outdoor Sculpture -- Vermont -- Barre Sculpture Owner:  Hope Cemetery, Barre, Vermont Remarks:  Elia Corti, brother of Guglelmo Corti, was among the first generation of immigrant sculptors from northern Italy to work in the Barre granite industry. He was killed while attending a socialist labor rally in Barre, Oct. 4, 1903. The community commissioned the memorial.
