    Description: 
    Full-length, standing figure of Elia Corti, in a pose of melancholic reflection. His proper right hand, supported on the thigh, extends to meet the pensively inclined head. The proper left arm is placed on a truncated column, with a plant life at the base. He is placed against a rough-hewn granite boulder.

    Remarks: 
    Elia Corti, brother of Guglelmo Corti, was among the first generation of immigrant sculptors from northern Italy to work in the Barre granite industry. He was killed while attending a socialist labor rally in Barre, Oct. 4, 1903. The community commissioned the memorial. IAS files include related excerpts from Gene Sessions' text Celebrating a Century of Granite Art.
