Description:
Atop a tall red granite base stands a bronze figure of a Civil War infantry soldier holding his gun in front of him. He holds the muzzle of the gun with both hands and rests the butt of the gun by his proper right foot. The elaborate granite base is adorned on the front with a crossed sabers relief above two cannons of polished granite which rest on the lower front of the base. The block of granite above the crossed sabers is adorned with polished granite columns, one at each corner. Above the columns is a shield bearing the stars and stripes.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by Lyander Cutler Post #55 of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and cost $1,700. The White Bronze Monument Company fabricated the sculpture; L. S. Cohn and Alexander Robertson (of Cohn & Robertson Granite Company designed the base. IAS files contain a newspaper article from The Central Wisconsin (Wausau, WI), July 10, 1986.
