    Remarks:
The monument was built by Lawrence Claffy and the limestone came from the south bank of the Seneca River. The monument marks the former site of the Indian town, Skoi-yase. The town, comprised of fifteen houses, was destroyed in General Sullivan's campaign against the Six Nations. The monument was erected in honor the centennial of the Town of Waterloo, by the Waterloo Historical Society who also obtained funding. Lafayette Park was formerly known as Academy Park. IAS files contain an excerpt from "Journals of the Military Expedition of Major General John Sullivan against the Six Nations of Indians in 1779 with Records of Centennial Celebrations," (Auburn, NY: Knapp, Peck & Thomson, 1887).
