    Remarks:
Commissioned by the City in memory of Flight 232 which crashed in Sioux City July 19, 1989. The design is based on a photograph taken by photojournalist Gary Anderson of Lt. Col. Dennis Nielson rescuing one of the survivors of the crash, Spencer Bailey. The final cost was $300,000, including $65,000 for the sculpture and $160,000 for the landscaping. Funds came from corporate donors including United Airlines. Remaining funds were used to establish an endowment to maintain the site. IAS files include related articles from the Sioux City Journal, Sept 26, 1991, the Des Moines Register, June 6, 1994 and the text of a nearby commemorative plaque.
