    Ann D Chris 1987 (On plaque on base:) WITH PURITY AND WITH/HOLINESS I WILL PASS/MY LIFE, AND PRACTICE/MY ART (Incised on the pedestal above the plaque is this same passage from the Hippocratic Oath in Greek characters) signed
    Description: 
    A bust of Hippocrates stands on a four-sided, pyramidal base. The figure is balding with a moustache and beard. He wears a Classical-style, long-sleeved garment and holds a rolled scroll in his proper right hand. The figure is visible from the torso up, and both bent arms "lean" on the base. The base is comprised of varied geometric shapes and different textures to represent stages in the history of ancient medicine.

    Remarks: 
    Gift of members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Plaques behind the piece contain the full text of the Hippocratic Oath. Also nearby grows a tree, which was planted with seeds of a tree on Cos Island, Greece. It is believed that Hippocrates taught his lessons from under this type of tree.
