    Description:
A square relief plaque is mounted on the front of a granite wall. On top of the wall is a small tapered shaft topped by a bronze eagle with wings spread. The relief image, taken from an Al Chang photograph known as " The Battle of Heartbreak Ridge," depicts three soldiers dressed in Army fatigues huddled together on a muddy hillside. One man is curled up in the arms of another, his head resting on his comrades chest. A third soldier is seated to their proper right with knees drawn up to his chest, wearing a helmet and sunglasses. He holds a letter or document in his lap with both hands. The dog tag of a dead comrade dangles from his finger. A lone helmet rests on the ground in front of him. Commemorative bronze plaques flank the relief. The sculpture is surrounded closely by low bushes.

    Remarks:
The sculpture was conceived and spearheaded by Huntington resident Len Totora, a former combat photographer who worked side by side with Al Chang. Chang's 1950 photograph, known as "The Battle of Heartbreak Ridge," was the inspiration for the relief. Glen Anderson and Randy Torres modeled for the artist. The relief was cast by Joel Meisner & Company of Farmingdale, New York. IAS files contain a related article from the Times-Beacon Newspaper, North Shore Leisure section, July 2, 1992, pg. C5-C6.
