    Description: 
    Monument consists of five full-length uniformed figures, a shaft and a tiered base enclosed within a low coping. A color bearer stands on top of the shaft, holding the flag on its pole in his proper left hand. Four branches of the military are represented by the figures at the base of the shaft. An infantryman stands on the east side, holding his musket with bayonet vertically. His proper left foot rests on a knapsack. A sailor on the west side holds a sword in his proper right hand. His proper left foot rests on a coil of rope. The artilleryman on the north side holds a rammer. The cavalryman on the south side wears a wide-brimmed hat and holds his rifle horizontally.

    Remarks: 
    Erected by the Soldiers and Sailors Monument Association for $10,500. The sailor figure was designed by Lt. Washington Irving Chambers of the United States Navy, and the other lower figures were designed by James Edward Kelly. All were sculpted by Lorado Taft and cast by American Bronze Company under the direction of George H. Mitchell. IAS files contain excerpts from "History of Yonkers," by Charles E. Allison (Harrison, NY: Harbor Hill Books, 1896, 1984) and "Philipse Manor Hall at Yonkers N.Y.: the Site, the Building and its Occupants," by Edward Hagaman Hall (New York: The American Scenic and Historic Preservation Society, 1912).
