    Description: 
    A large stone structure symbolizing a "roofless church" containing rows of trees, benches, fountains, and inscription plaques, where veterans and their families can come to reflect on past wars. The open design of the structure is reminiscent of the ruins in a war zone, and is a symbolic reference to the break in the lives of those who serve during a war, and the families left behind at home.

    Remarks: 
    The monument was designed by Cee Jay Fredericks and his staff for the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial Commission competition in 1989. The cost of the memorial was nearly six million dollars. The memorial honors Pennsylvania veterans of all wars. IAS files contain a copy of an article from the West Chester Daily Local News, Nov. 7, 2002; and except from "The Veterans' Review (Jan. 2002).
