Saint Francis of Assisi, (sculpture). Artist:  Unknown (Italian), sculptor. Cathedral Church Goods, contractor. Title:  Saint Francis of Assisi, (sculpture). Dates:  Installed ca. 1983. Medium:  Sculpture: painted fiberglass, cement; Base: brick, granite. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 50 x 18 x 13 in.; Base: approx. 55 x 49 x 24 in. Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Full-length figure of St. Francis of Assisi. He wears a belted monk's robe and sandals. A rosary hangs from his rope belt. He has tonsured hair. His arms are bent at the elbow and held up, palms visible. A bird perches on his proper right shoulder. Another bird stands in front of his proper left foot. The fiberglass and concrete sculpture is painted white and stands on a brick and granite base. Subject:  Religion -- Saint -- St. Francis Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- New Hampshire -- Manchester Sculpture Owner:  St. Francis of Assisi Church, 3221 Brown Avenue, Manchester, New Hampshire 03103 Remarks:  The sculpture was purchased from Cathedral Church Goods (Manchester, NH) and was imported from Italy. The sculpture was installed by Father Corriveau and the parish youth group in the early 1980's. In 1996 the sculpture was vandalized when the figure's hands were broken off and the bird sitting on the figure's shoulder was broken off. The broken pieces were recovered.
