Description:
Uniformed Civil War soldier stands atop a tall tapered pedestal and base. The figure wears a long coat and cap and holds his rifle in front of him vertically with the butt by his proper right foot.

Remarks:
Gift of Aaron T. Bliss, a Smithfield native, colonel in the Union Army and later a United States congressman and governor of Michigan. The sculpture is reportedly a replica of a piece which stands in a cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan. IAS files contain excerpts from the Peterboro Scrapbook, vol. 1, "The Borough of Peter," by Raymond P. Ernenwein (1970), the Peterboro Passport, 1993 and related articles from the Syracuse Post-Standard, May 11, 1983 and the Syracuse Herald-Journal, Aug. 5, 1993.
