    Remarks:
The memorial cost $3,000 and was dedicated Oct. 23, 1869. It was one of the very first memorials to the Union defenders of 1861-1865 to be erected in the State of Pennsylvania. Mary Jane Levan, a daughter of the Father of the Muncy Cemetery, initiated the drive for the memorial and the ladies of Muncy began the fund raising drive with an ice-cream and strawberry festival held in June 1865. IAS files contain excerpt from "History, Rules, Regulations, etc. of the Muncy Cemetery at Muncy, Penn.," printed 1896 by Luminary Print (Muncy, PA) and articles from Muncy Luminary, Oct. 19, 1869, pg. 3 and Oct. 26, 1869, pg. 1. IAS files also contain list of names of soldiers and battles that appear on the monument.
