    Description:
A bronze sculpture depicting a rancher astride his horse, a sheepherder and his horse, and two sheepdogs honors the early ranching community in Campbell County. The rancher and the sheepherder are facing each other, both men in an attitude of friendly conversation. The rancher wears a broad-brimmed hat and a cowboy shirt. He holds a coiled lariat in his proper right hand. The sheepherder stands with a long staff held in front of him. He wears a jacket and a cap with earflaps tied up on top. His saddled horse stands behind him off to his proper right side. Two small sheepdogs lie on either side of the sheepherder. The rider and sheepherder do not wear guns, signifying the peace that existed between the ranchers and sheepherders in Campbell County.

    Remarks:
The rider represents George Amos, a Wyoming rancher who bequeathed his estate to build a library in Campbell County. The George Amos Memorial Library was built in 1941, but by 1980 the library had outgrown the building and a new library was to be built. To keep the connection with George Amos and the ranching history of the community, the county commissioned this sculpture honoring ranchers and sheepherders in Campbell County. Jim Blackstone modeled for the rider and Carl Preuit modeled for the standing sheepherder. Joe Cantwell helped with the steel bending on the armature. IAS files contain related article from The Platte County Record-Times (Wheatland, WY), Sept. 1, 1982.
