Description:
Site-specific installation encompassing a courtyard between two buildings. A series of low steps lead down to the courtyard plaza floor which is covered with colored pebbles. Two sycamore trees are planted near one end. A lapping fountain of cut sandstone and Arroyo granite springs from the roots of the trees. Water follows a narrow channel, over the black granite base of the Sentinel and disappears into a gravel border. Drifts of plants are planted around the fountain edges. The Sentinel is a column rising to a capital with four eagle heads and topped with a cobalt blue light. The back stucco wall of the courtyard is painted purple and capped with a red band.

Remarks:
The installation was completed as a public art project for the new police headquarters. The stucco wall was purposely underpainted by the artist, causing it to season over time. IAS files contain copy of related artists's drawings and statement.
