Civil War Monument, (sculpture). Artist:  Unknown (Italian), carver. C. V. Inks, contractor. Title:  Civil War Monument, (sculpture). Dates:  Commissioned July 1896. Installed 1896. Dedicated May 30, 1897. Medium:  Italian marble on a limestone pedestal and marble cubic monolith. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 6 ft. x 18 in. x 18 in.; Base: approx. 9 x 9 x 9 ft. Inscription:  (Small pedestal below figure:) 1896 (More than 300 names of Civil War soldier who died are listed on the main base marble block) unsigned Description:  Figure of a union soldier standing at parade rest. He wears a uniform consisting of a long coat, a cape buttoned at the top and a cap. The mustached figure holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands. The butt of the gun rests in front of his proper right foot.
