John Houston was a surgeon in the Revolution, and a physician of York County, Pennsylvania. The painting is a copy after a 1790 silhouette by F. C., then owned by Mrs. Greene, and later owned by Mrs. Henry P. Brown of Enfield, New Hampshire.
