Remarks:
A memorial committee, chaired by Rev. Francis J. Furfaro, helped raise $10,000 to erect the monument in honor of veterans of World War II. When the memorial was dedicated in August of 1946, the park was known as Bennett Park. The monument was seriously vandalized in the 1960s and the original glass covered wood memorial panels were smashed, and portions have been subsquently infilled with stucco.
