    Remarks:
KZOK, a Seattle radio station, started a fund-raising drive to honor internationally recognized rock musician Jimi Hendrix, a native of Seattle, with a memorial. With assistance from the Seattle Arts Commission, a competition to select an artist was organized. Larry Buckingham, a Seattle landscape architect, was selected and designed a sculpture to overlook the Zoo's African Savanna exhibit.
