Nearby plaque: "Mary Brownstein. Procession. Pigmented cement. Sculpture Purchase Competition. 'Procession is the celebration of rites of spring, of death, of birth, of life.' She elevates the human figure, placing it on a pedestal, as if to say that the art is contained in the human experience." The sculpture was purchased by the university with support of its Sculpture Purchase Competition. Prior to installation, the sculpture was shown in an "Exhibition of Contemporary Sculpture by Twenty-Seven Artists" in Washington, D.C.
