    Remarks:
The memorial was originally erected in honor of over 1,000 Port Chester residents who served in the First World War. A plaque listing their names, including the 26 who died in service, was embedded in the ground nearby. In 1964, a flagpole was added to the site to honor veterans of the Second World War and the Korean War. The sculpture was cleaned and rededicated in 1993 when improvements were made to Veterans Memorial Park. IAS files contain an excerpt from "History of the Village of Port Chester," Port Chester, NY: Village of Port Chester Centennial Book Committee, 1968 and a related article from the Port Chester Item, May 28, 1993 which lists the sculpture's media as brass. IAS files also contain the text of some of the associated nearby plaques.
