    "Painting depicts Geary astride his horse during battle. He is holding the reins in his left hand and his right arm is raised. He is holding his hat in his right hand. He is looking to the left. His horse has one leg raised depicting movement. Man and horse dominate the center of the scene. In background mounted men on horses can be seen through a haze. In far right background a soldier turns toward the infantry to lead them to battle."
