    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by the City of Kansas City at a cost of approximately $17,000. Funds were raised by the Bernard Powell Memorial Committee. Bernard Powell (1947-1979) was a civic leader and activist, native to Kansas City. He was former regional director of Congress of Racial Equity and founder Social Action Committee of Twenty (SAC-20). His efforts were nationally recognized when he received the Jefferson Award for public service. Sculpture is also a time capsule. IAS files include related articles from the Kansas City Star, Sept. 30, 1979; Aug. 29, 1987; Aug. 13, 1991; Aug. 18, 1991; Dec. 8, 1991; and the Kansas City Times, Sept. 28, 1987.
